Low down blues with The Holmes Brothers

Last on main stage on Saturday is Brothers Sherman and Wendell Holmes with brother-in-spirit,Popsy Dixon, who played to the crowds as the sun started to set over main stage.

Their vocals and with their mix of blues, gospel and soul, which they have be playing for over thirty years, suited the early evening mood perfectly.

The band have won several Blues Music Awards and their last album, Feed My Soul, was inspired following Wendell's victory over cancer.

  1. The saddest sight for me at this years festival was the sight of the wonderful "holmes brothers" arriving for their signing session and not a single person turning up ( accept me !! ) ...still at least they went down well closing stage 1 with their brilliant blend of blues ,soul and gospel ...It was just a shame that by then lots of the crowd had left .. i really think all the acts who play the last slots at the end of the day should have an ealier slot on another day as loads of people ( eg those who dont have they staying power after a long day gig watching..or those there with children etc ) would miss them ... and the likes of the Hoilmes brothers ( and also the "unusual suspects" ) deserve better

  2. As a first timer loved everything with the minor niggle about some of the link presenters being patronising even whilst declaring they didn't want to be. This does not apply to Mark Radcliffe of course.

  3. Been so many times and another great festival - so many brilliant moments as always - but the line up wasn't right on friday or saturday night stage 1 (Holmes Brothers and Unusual suspects should have been on earlier)- you either need someone who can keep the crowds and/or keep them dancing however Lunasa did a cracking job on sunday night!
